A humble knowledge of oneself is a surer road to God than a deep searching of the sciences. Yet learning itself is not to be blamed, or is the simple knowledge of anything whatsoever to be despised, for true learning is good in itself and ordained by God; but a good conscience and a holy life are always to be preferred. But because many are more eager to acquire much learning than to live well, they often go astray, and bear little or no fruit. If only such people were as diligent in the uprooting of vices and the panting of virtues as they are in the debating of problems, there would not be so many evils and scandals among the people, nor such laxity in communities. At the Day of Judgement, we shall not be asked what we have read, but what we have done; not how eloquently we have spoken, but how holily we have lived. Tell me, where are now all those Masters and Doctors whom you knew so well in their lifetime in the full flower of their learning? Other men now sit in their seats, and they are hardly ever called to mind. In their lifetime they seemed of great account, but now no one speaks of them. (Quote by Thomas a Kempis in the Christian devotional book Imitation of Christ)
‘Do you search the scriptures?’ is a very simple but effective question to gauge anyone’s growth in the Lord Jesus Christ. Some people say they want to get ‘closer’ to God and to achieve this they subject themselves to extreme levels of fasting, self-flagellation and other penances but they still feel they are lacking in something. Well, what they lack is that they are yet to encounter Jesus Christ in the Holy Scriptures. Don’t be like them, you search for Christ in the Bible and be filled with his grace and mercy.
If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh. (Colossians 2:20-23)
[Jesus said:] You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me (John 5:39)
Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. (Proverbs 4:24-25)
Once you are in a relationship for marriage or are already married to your spouse never ever flirt with anyone. It’s stupid and completely selfish for anyone be it a man or a woman to keep looking for others to flirt with even when they have an existing fiance. Knowing that we live in adulterous times, even if anyone’s fiance or spouse ‘allows’ them to flirt even then such behaviour directly is in rebellion to the Lord Jesus Christ and is never permissable for anyone who wants to remain holy. No fooling around on this one!
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. (1 Samuel 15:23)

Your salvation does not depend on the opinions of a majority and neither does the Word of God depend on acceptance by the majority.
Do not get bothered by people who call good as evil and evil as good. These will surely be rewarded for their misdeeds on Judgement Day. So never partake of their stupidity in calling whatever lie they want as truly nice to follow just because they might be a majority. Just because the majority decide to call the sun as a planet does not make it a planet. A majority consensus among people does not turn a crab into a turtle.
Similarly, the Word of God will remain the truth no matter how many people leave the church or even become apostates. Christianity is never a numbers game and it never was and never will be. It’s about being in a relationship with Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. And the Lord God will never love you less even if all those around you disapprove of you believing in Christ his Son. So leave these vile little tricksters who want to hate the Lord to their own little fantasy world if they refuse to believe in the Gospel. You instead continue to love the Lord God.
The below Psalm speaks about receiving safety by the Lord God. And this can also be applied to your salvation. It doesn’t matter how many people are sinners around you, you are going to heaven only because of your faith in Christ and not their unbelief.
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge— no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. (Psalm 91:7-10)
Simply focus on the Word of God. Empires and kings have come and fought against the Christian faith, they tried their worst to prevent the worship of the One True Savior of the Word and yet they all went down in life instead. The Word of God has prevailed against the test of time and will continue to do so. All praise and glory to the Lord God.
A few verses for your personal reflection:
- Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens. (Psalm 119:89)
- The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.(Isaiah 40:8)
- “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10-11)
- For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. (Matthew 5:18)
- “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.(Matthew 24:32-35)
I recommend that you put the following verses to memory and also to action so that you glorify God in all that you do:
Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you. (1 Peter 1:22-25)
God be with you!
Though the following verses talk about the downfall of Babylon, one must take note that everyone who thinks no one sees them and because of this they will escape judgement, is actually making a big mistake. God can see through the lies and illusions that men and women use to hide away their secret sins. If people are not willing to leave their wicked ways, God will not hesitate to punish them in due season. Now for the verses please read below:
You felt secure in your wickedness, you said, “No one sees me”; your wisdom and your knowledge led you astray,
and you said in your heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.” But evil shall come upon you, which you will not know how to charm away; disaster shall fall upon you, for which you will not be able to atone; and ruin shall come upon you suddenly, of which you know nothing. (Isaiah 47:10-11)
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. (Colossians 3:2)
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. (Romans 8:5)
Making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. (Proverbs 2:2-5)
22 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 23 “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them, 24 The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; 26 the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.27 “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.” (Numbers 6:22-27)
It was a holy thing in the Old Testament times for a priest of the Lord to pronouce a blessing over the people of Israel. No mere wishing but a blessing in the name of the Lord who is the creator of heaven and earth. With the arrival of the Gospel in your life you too are a priest and Bible confirms this. The priesthood here is not a ritualistic type of priesthood but a spiritual one.
4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia:Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood 6 and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (Revelation 1:4-6)
Your priesthood is from God and is meant to glorify the Lord. So bless the children you have in the name of Jesus. Pray the Numbers 6:24-26 prayer over them. It might sound old fashioned but its worth every bit to pray over children and along with them for their success in life. A preacher too must pray the blessing of God over his congregation so that as they walk out after the worship service they continue to revel in the presence of the Lord God and remember that true and everlasting sucess comes from God alone.
The Lord God is unlimited in his power and mercy. Holy is his name. He can do all things abundantly out of his love for those who believe in him and work for his glory. So don’t ever limit the Numbers 6:24-26 prayer just only for children or your local church. Pray for anyone and everyone whom the Holy Spirit leads you to bless them in the name of Jesus so that the Lord God is exalted through them in their prosperity.
