Avoid fooling around on April the 1st (April fool’s day)

fake

The first day of the month of April, is usually when most of the world practices what called “April Fool’s Day”. Christians should avoid indulging in the antics of this day and rather pray for wisdom for themselves and others.

It’s a noble thought to desire that your friends and family become wise and intelligent. It’s vain to provoke them to fear, shock and outrage by deliberately fooling them or rather tricking them. Such thoughts which are deceptive are not as per the will of God.

In order to fool someone of April Fool’s Day, people of the world tell lies, they also deceive others in various means.  So if you see a picture of a panda on an elephant be assured that it’s a trick to fool you. Rather pictures human beings riding an elephant are more realistic. I mean on this day (maybe others try it all year round) there are plenty of lies being told through videos, news reports, images and what not. Be on guard against them. It’s best to avoid trusting the news and messages that you might receive on such a day.

Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life. All his followers must therefore, not lie! The Bible does not tell us to lie, it in fact tells us not to lie and not to sin with our speech and actions. Life your life unto the Lord in honesty and integrity of heart. If the world wants to sin by indulging in April Fool’s day, its only because they have chosen so because they have accepted falsehood as their all. While you have the Word of God to guide and lead you, so never say you cannot reject the sinful ways of the world. Say yes to Christ in all your words and actions, let them always be true and wholesome.

Bible verses for reflection:

  • Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight. (Proverbs 12:22)
  • Better is a poor person who walks in his integrity than one who is crooked in speech and is a fool. (Proverbs 19:1)
  • Be not a witness against your neighbor without cause, and do not deceive with your lips. (Proverbs 24:28)
  • And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. (Luke 6:31)
  • “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12)
  • Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. (Ephesians 4:25)
  • Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:31-32)
  • Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things. (Hebrews 13:18)
  • But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)

Avoid worthless messages for your own good

This age has seen the rise of various modes of communication than any previous generation. Using the internet, various message apps and social media websites we’re able to contact each other. So this has meant better connectivity with friends and relatives spread across the world.

However, this has also led to the rise of foolish stuff being promoted across the world. For example, racist jokes, anti men jokes, anti women jokes, dangerous spoofs, suicidal vibes, false rumors etc.

A few years ago ‘going viral’ would mean some disease has been affecting lots of people. Now the same words ‘going viral’ mean that some video, photo, song etc has attained rapid popularity among the masses.

Not every that has gone viral is worth your like, click or share. Whenever you get such messages or shares ask yourself if that is really going to worth devoting your time, focus and energy in the long-term.

Not everyone who creates hilarious or entertaining stuff is creating it out of genuine goodwill for you. There is something called ad revenue, which they receive when you click on the links in the message.

Some people are insincere, who only want your money not your happiness. Some do not bother about the wrong and immoral things they send out as messages. A good number of people only want to promote gossip, racism, slander and vulgarity instead of sending out encouraging, positive messages.

Psalm 1:1-6 says that; Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous

So block worthless messages for your own good. Anything that goes against the teachings of the Bible must be avoided. Do not presume permission from the Lord for reading obscenities. You may have got a spiritually poisonous message by accident. You may have never asked for it. But it would be wrong on your part to encourage these messages. It’s your choice to say NO to such messages.

If you want then you can politely ask the person who is sending you poisonous messages to stop. Then if he doesn’t change his behavior then you can block all such messages from him. However, there are certain individuals who are so evil or simply dogmatic in their approach to life, that it’s better not to ask them but directly stop their messages. You many have to refer to the relevant user guide for your phone, computer or application to block them out of your life.

Once you stop paying heed to the negativity of spirit in these messages, you will notice a change for the better. But you need to stop such evil messages first.

Scriptures for reflection:

James 4:17 says that; So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

1 John 2:15-17 says that; Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
