Want a better new year in God?
Almost every year a drill goes on. At the beginning of the year, there’s a lot of people who make big challenges to themselves. As if the first day of the year holds some special power to grant them great things. Basically, you do your list of things so that you have a better new year than the last one. Then come the slip ups in maintaining resolutions. And the usual giving up and waiting for the next year to start afresh. So basically due to lack of planning and discipline the good works one wished to do didn’t go that well.
Usually people don’t plan for the long term but instead only have a set of wishes which they label as a plan. If you want to plan a good year for yourself then plan to make God happy. Making the Lord happy is surprisingly simple. The big question which a person who trusts in Christ must ask himself is what can oneself do to glorify God this year? You’d realize that to glorify God its not a bunch of stunts but faithful living unto God that does matter.
Believing in Christ everyday is a great way to please God. You can desire to spend more time with Jesus alone. Cherish the Gospel and live it. Do NOT be ashamed of the Gospel at anytime. Make it a point that you’ll read the Bible a little more and you will reflect on it to bear fruit. Decide for yourself that you won’t do it legalistically but rather out of desire to glorify the Lord God. Every few days try to keep a time where you will thank God for every blessing he gives to you. Keep it between you and God with no middle man. It’s not a sin if you tell of your desire to gladden God, to your mentor. But remember that while your mentor could be a great teacher, there’s no better teacher of the things of Christ than the Holy Spirit.
With your spiritual life set on pleasing God you can be sure of finding your happiness in his happiness. Also you can pray and discern as to which hobby, art, learning etc which is useful to pursue and give glory to God. All in all this year, lose yourself in Christ and you will find yourself.
Bible verses to reflect on:
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21)
Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. (John 12:25)
For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? (Matthew 16:25-26)
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Galatians 6:11-14)
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
Wish you a blessed New Year in Christ Jesus our Lord!
