A Jew converts to Christianity – Bob’s Story

Fragrance of resurrection

Rising up on the third day,
Doing things God’s way.
A sacrifice painful to endure,
Sinless Lamb of God all pure.

A fragrant offering and sacrifice,
God’s mercy through Jesus does suffice.
No decay in his death nor grave was found,
He fulfilled the Law of Moses all around.

Christ became a worthy offering in love,
Unto the Lord God above.
Jesus died for us crucified,
At the Father’s right hand now glorified.

Death couldn’t hold him up forever,
Because he is holy and sinned never.
God raised him from the dead O behold,
His prophets the resurrection foretold.

The fragrance of the knowledge of Jesus is good,
For he overcame sin and death by the cross of wood.
This aroma spreads everywhere in triumphant procession,
Led by Jesus Christ who gives us redemption.

Verses for reflection:

14 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15 For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, 16 to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ. (2 Corinthians 2:14-17)

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:1-2)

12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. (Hebrews 10:12-14)

Can a person not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and still be saved?

If anyone believes that Jesus Christ exists that person’s faith is still incomplete, if he or she does not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This will be a great hindrance to that person receiving salvation.

Those who say he was never crucified by citing any reason or religious authority, are not saved either. For the resurrection to happen there would need to be a death. Not any type of death but that by crucifixion. Again, there is no resurrection of Jesus Christ without the crucifixion. Jesus himself spoke of his death and resurrection as mentioned in the below verses:

  • And Jesus began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. (Mark 8:31)
  • saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.” (Luke 9:22)

The crucifixion was foretold in Psalm 22, of which here are the specific verses:

16 For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet17 I can count all my bones—they stare and gloat over me;18 they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots. (Psalm 22:16-18)

This prophecy about Jesus was fulfilled and mention in the Gospel of Matthew (Chapter 19:23-24)

23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, 24 so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” This was to fulfill the Scripture which says,They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.”

The following verses show that one must confess and believe that God raised Jesus from the dead, to receive salvation:

5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. (Romans 10:5-10)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (1 Peter 1:3)

Conclusion:

14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:14-15)

Jesus said “repent and believe in the Gospel”. One needs to repent of sin, because it’s the command of Jesus. Now, believing in the Gospel includes believing in the atoning death of Jesus Christ and also his glorious resurrection. Those who don’t believe in the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus will not be saved, unless they repent of their unbelief and believe in the Gospel completely. And by this I mean they believe that God raised Jesus from the dead.

A Man May Go To Heaven

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Your biking cannot get you to heaven. Nor can winning a contest of good looks get you to heaven. Donating all your savings to the church too cannot make you right with God.

The only person who can save you is Jesus Christ. Don’t leave your earthly existence without him!

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

A perspective on the Gospel and salvation – The victory of Christ

Praise be unto the Lord God our Father who sent his only begotten Son Jesus to save us from our sins. Every blessing and glory to the Lord Jesus Christ who is victorious over sin, death and Satan. We ask that the Holy Spirit always keeps us mindful of the mercies and the triumph of God in Christ Jesus. Amen.

For the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’  Deuteronomy 20:4

The Gospel and salvation are two sides of the same coin. No one who forever rejects the Gospel can receive salvation. Nor can anyone who is saved try to avoid the Gospel and then continue to be faithful to the Lord God.

Jesus on the Cross

One view of salvation mentioned in the Gospel is how sinners get an escape from the eternal consequences of their sins when they repent of their sins and believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In fact this is profoundly true. To elaborate more on this, it can be said that God’s mercy for mankind was so great that He sent his only begotten Son Jesus Christ to atone for their sins on the cross. Therefore, anyone who is repentant of his or her sins and believes in the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus on one’s own behalf has passed from death to life. So here the emphasis is on the sinners response towards Christ.

because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:9-13)

Jesus ressurected

There’s another view of the Gospel and salvation. This is called the perspective of the victory of Christ. And this one is equally true. In this view Jesus Christ is glorified as the Lord who overcame sin and death. He even overcame temptations and the Devil himself even as a man. So here the focus is on the greatness of God in his mighty Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,  having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. (Colossians 2:11-15)

As a believer in Christ you share in the victory of Christ.

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:56-57)

But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. (2 Corinthians 2:14)

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world–our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God (1 John 5:4-5)

Jesus took on human nature so we can share in his victory.

Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,  and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. (Hebrews 2:14-15)

You didn’t get this victory of salvation by your own efforts.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:8-10)

We are warned against neglecting the salvation which comes from Christ.

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. (Hebrews 2:1-4)

We are called to live for Christ our victorious Lord and Savior.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. (2 Titus 2:11-14)

Jesus resurrection

If we combine the view of the victory of Christ and the view of the sinners need to accept Christ you have a far more complete view of salvation and the Gospel. It’s undeniable that the sinner must repent as the penalty for sin is eternal damnation and therefore he needs to receive salvation. Also, one must not discount the fact that no man could ever receive salvation without the hand of God actually offering salvation in the first place. Be joyful when anyone repents and believes in Gospel, be happy for that person for such a person has escaped the grasp of the Devil. Yet, even be more happy that the victory of Christ made salvation possible for that precious brother or sister in Christ.

Christ be with you!

Do not restrict children from coming to Christ

child at peace

Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away. (Matthew 19:13-15)

Never ever be a legalistic person in trying to restrict children from coming to Christ. Because Jesus does not restrict himself to only the grown ups. He is there for the kids too. If a child wants to read the Bible or sing praises to God then you might as well encourage such things. There is nothing in the Bible that says to discourage kids from trying to learn about Jesus our Lord.

child trainedDeuteronomy 11:18-19 says this about teaching children the word of God; “You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

No wonder, when a child wants to know about Jesus Christ do not give excuses saying that they are not come of age.  Don’t delay their walk into the church services. Just think, how come the Evil One doesn’t bother about the age of children? He won’t hesitate to let children learn obscene language at school. He will try to make them focus too much on the TV instead of studies. So why make the Devil have a field day tempting children via the various deceptions of the world while you wait till the kids are grown up? Be a real soldier for Christ and cut off the plans of the Devil for your children. Teach your child about the Gospel. Teach them to be alert and prayerful. Most importantly teach them everything about Jesus Christ and his saving power.

I remember a preacher saying, ‘Christian youth are not the future, they are the present’. This couldn’t be more true. Why wait for Christian kids or youth to cross like 35-40 years to be zealous for God and so work for him? Instead you can always encourage them to do whatever little thing they can for the glory of God. Like singing in the choir, making Christian art work and poems, praying if they hear of someone in need etc. There’s always something good a child can do. All they need is the right direction and encouragement. This can happen best when they are aware of the grace and salvation that comes from the Lord Jesus Christ. Never let them be denied this.

Christ be with you!

Take the machinery out of the church

The farther away from God you get, the more rules and regulations you’ll come up with in an effort to maintain what you once had. And what was once living will soon become mechanical and artificial. (Take the machinery out of the church.)

Beware of the yoke of men. Man’s yoke looks good, but it will only slow you down in the climb, and will make you less fruitful. The Lord’s yoke is light, it lifts you up, but man’s will weigh you down.

Zealous Christians can sometimes fall into the deception that they can earn God’s Love, and that His love is based on their performance. (I personally fell to this deception.)  Be sure to love God for who He Is, not for what He can give you.  The Love of God is not so cheap that it can be earned by the work of your hand or the sweat of your brow.

The above quotes are by Robert Brownell (of divinerevelations.info) and exhort us to follow God freely in spirit. Sometimes people act legalistic while they may not be aware of their behavior. However, these people are aware of how others follow God freely and so don’t have an excuse. God wants his people to love him with all of their heart, mind and strength. Acting like a machine won’t help you at all. Machines don’t have have a heart nor a mind.

You need to receive the Lord Jesus who gives true grace and truth. So hold Jesus close to your heart. Love Jesus not out of compulsion but out of free will.  God knows the thoughts of your heart, so don’t do good works to get a certificate of right conduct from a preacher. Maybe you need that certificate for church formalities etc. However, be true to the will of God. The will of God is not something clouded by intellectual smoke. God’s will is that you believe in the Lord Jesus and live a holy life unto God.5f01a6e19afafff5ef5f554514107cc4

Do works of charity not for fame but for the glory of God. Good works don’t get you salvation as you can never earn your way into heaven. Salvation is given freely by Jesus Christ to those believe in him and the Gospel of Christ.  Salvation is not a ‘one-time-prayer-and-forget-about-it’, it’s about continuing in your relation with Jesus. For salvation outside of Jesus Christ does not exist, so keep within Jesus always.

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. (John 1:17)

So that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:21)
