Avoid having a vacant mind

Avoid having a vacant mind,
Lest from heavens path you get left behind.
Blank not your mind even mildly,
Lest your life goes on wildly.

Avoid being away from God’s Word in thought disengaged,
Lest by the dark insidious world you get upstaged.
Never ever hollow your soul,
Lest you miss your heavenly goal.

Avoid blankly using your head,
Lest you don’t discern instead.
Avoid not thinking at all,
Lest you don’t do good either big or small.

When in depression wait upon the Lord

When in depression or anxiety don’t get impulsive and make a wrong decision. This can further aggravate your situation. Instead wait upon the Lord God. First pray to God and be calm in his presence. Then be patient to receive his wisdom from above. For the Lord can answer from the Holy Scriptures if you read it prayerfully. Or the Holy Spirit can cause people inspired by him with the answer. Sometimes you might just get a thought from above. All you need to do next is to check if it’s consistent with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and accordingly act on it.

Think wisely

When the world’s insane,
Don’t be profane,
When sinners run about,
Stay away from their clout.

Then think not too odd,
But stand up for God.
Win the victory first in your mind,
Leave sinning all behind.

Honour the Lord in your actions,
Pure reflections of your mind’s reactions.
Be diligent, be holy and be brave,
For you serve the Lord who can save.

Speak of Jesus Christ in reverence,
In his worship show no fake deference.
He is the way and is the truth,
Listen to him and bear righteous fruit.

Mediate on the Lord’s commandment day and night,
And see your prosperity rise way above height.
Respect yourself to be wise enough to endure,
For you’re the temple of the Holy Spirit to be kept pure.

Surrender your thoughts to the Lord Jesus

Every person on earth has thoughts. Thoughts are of various flavors. They could be of joy, nostalgia, thrills, beauty, creativity etc. They could also be dark thoughts such as fear, greed, death etc. Some thoughts make you feel free while others put you in a box.

You will continue to have thoughts all through your life. What you make of them is what really matters.

The choice of what you think is totally up to you. You can think great things for the glory of God or you think like the rest of the world who do not focus on Christ. Make the better choice, always.

Now there could a few things that you think of but don’t understand. You might face thoughts of fear. You may have thoughts anxiety about the unknown future. Let me tell you that not just the past and the present even the future belongs to the Lord Jesus. Jesus is Lord of time because he holds the times and seasons in his hands.

When you are getting any thought that’s tempting you to sin bring it to the feet of Jesus. Say to Jesus that you surrender all thoughts of sin that you are facing unto him. Do it in faith.

Don’t entertain thoughts of anxiety. Repel all thoughts of suicide and be very brave Don’t keep worrying. Surrender such thoughts to Jesus who gives life and peace. Remember what the Holy Scriptures say.

1 Peter 5:7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

Psalms 55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

What about good thoughts? Don’t just think good thoughts. Surrender them to Jesus as well. The Lord loves to hear when his children tell him their good thoughts. Make your prayers and petitions known to him. The Lord will lead you in all wisdom and truth who makes all things beautiful in his time.

Thinking in the right direction

light in caveColossians 3:1-11 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you once walked, when you lived in them. But now put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and foul talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free man, but Christ is all, and in all.

We are encouraged by the Bible to set our minds on things above and not on things on earth. It does not mean you totally neglect your earthly duties. It means that you realize that you have to follow wisdom that come above, which is from God in heaven.

There is good reason to do so, as when Jesus shed his blood by dying on the cross, he took upon himself all of your sin. So when you believe in Jesus you believe that he came to take away your sins, your old life of sinfulness is taken away and you become a new creation. You may not be dead in the physical sense but in spirit you are dead to sin and there is a promise for you in Christ that you will be resurrected. You need to therefore live with that in mind.

You must there keep away from all sinfulness because sin was your old nature, so you can’t keep walking in it any more. You need to walk in the new nature, which the holiness which Christ has imparted to you. Therefore, you need to set your mind on Jesus above and not on things of this earth.

Here are a few scriptures you can reflect on:

Romans 6:13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.

Romans 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

Galatians 5:19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery

1 Corinthians 6:11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

2 Corinthians 5:14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.

1 Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Isaiah 55:6-7 Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
