The road to hell is paved with good intentions

“the road to hell is paved with good intentions”

Genesis 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

If you read the whole of Genesis 6 then you’d note that God judged mankind for sins both of action and intention. The problem back then was that everyone except Noah felt that every intention of theirs was good. They didn’t do a reality check to see if it was really good intentions or just wishful thinking.

We are called to discern our intentions so that we do what is pleasing to God. The way to do that is by knowing the Word of God.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

There are some people who think that ‘the only thing that is true is what is true for you’. They are highly mistaken. For some the lures of immoral relationships as in adultery are good just because of the pleasure. For some robbery is good because it gives quick money. For some contract killing is just another business like any other.  While others think that they can postpone their good work indefinitely due to lack of interest.  However, the Bible has really bad tidings for such people.

Here we go:

1) God fully knows the heart of men

Proverbs 15:11 Death and Destruction lie open before the LORD– how much more the hearts of men!

2) There is fixed punishment for sin. Period.

Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars–their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.

Ephesians 5:5 For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

3) You can’t call evil good and go away unpunished.

Just because there is a judge in your county that allows smoking weed and live-in relationship doesn’t mean that you can call such things good. They are still evil because you can’t change the law that is universal.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Summary: Check your thoughts if they are truly in line with the Word of God. The Word of God will guide you against all bad intentions, even thoughts those are disguised as good. Bad intentions are not good for you.
