Due diligence anyone?

Do you follow due diligence in everything you do? You might like to know what it means first.

General: Measure of prudence, responsibility, and diligence that is expected from, and ordinarily exercised by, a reasonable and prudent person under the circumstances.

Are you prudent with your financial matters? A truly prudent one will periodically check for the bank balance and account statements. There will be no ignoring of tax notices by anyone who doesn’t want to get into the wrong side of the law.

Do you follow due diligence with your health? A responsible person will avoid eating excessive amounts of salt and sugar. Such a person will try to find out what’s the right medicine for their ailments instead of blinding searching online. They will double check on surgical procedures before making a final and informed decision.

What about due diligence in relationships? A smart person doesn’t get awed by appearances of people that he forgets checking if such people are honest and polite. Good relationship between anyone never permits deception, hypocrisy and double standards.

What about your due diligence in your walk with Christ Jesus? A wise disciple of Christ will counter check everything that life throws at him or her by the scriptures. For such a person if any teaching or lifestyle contradicts the Gospel then such things will be rejected and not followed. There will always be emphasis on following God today, tomorrow and forever.

25 Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. 27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:25-33)

A diligent follower of Christ thinks about following the Lord forever. He does not let his love for any human relationships become a hindrance to his loyalty to God. He cannot love anyone or anything more than God.

The diligent one’s carry their cross as they know they are to be dead to sin and alive to Christ. They will have due diligence so all their words, thoughts and actions are holy and just. They throw off every weight that can potentially distract and dissuade them from the will of God. These are the people who don’t cling on to sin and the falsehood of the world.

Spend time thinking of how much due diligence do you actually use in following Christ Jesus. Think about any tendencies or thought patterns which lead you away from right living in all things of life. Estimate how much are you willing to let go of any falsehood no matter how much easy is it to hold on it. You might like to reach out to Bible and compare your preferences of life to that which is mentioned as acceptable to God. Pray to the Lord God that by his Holy Spirit you are led into all truth.
